Small gas reserves economically profitable with MFP

Until recently, it was not very attractive to develop and exploit new small gas fields in the southern part of the North Sea. Cofely Oil & Gas is changing this with their Minimum Facility Platform (MFP). Using this unmanned and remotely controlled platform, small fields are economically profitable.

Large savings on purchase, maintenance and personnel

Because the MFP is unmanned, personnel do not need to travel to the platform or stay there, thus avoiding the costs and risks involved, such as possible health problems. Moreover, you save substantially on the purchase and maintenance of the platform because a helicopter deck and accommodation are not necessary.

Nil energy costs due to wind turbines and solar panels

The MFP has wind turbines and solar panels which supply the platform with energy. The energy thus generated is stored in batteries, so that there is also energy available at night and when there is no wind. Moreover, high maintenance components such as generators are no longer necessary.

Advantages of the Minimum Facility Platform

  • Low investment, minimal personnel and energy costs.
  • Standardised platform; no need for large crane ships for placement.
  • Movable and therefore usable for multiple gas fields.
  • Annual maintenance carried out safely and efficiently by means of the
  • Offshore Access System, another of Cofely’s concepts.
