Cofely becomes first independent service party for wind energy in the Netherlands
Bunnik – Technical service provider Cofely has signed a seven-year maintenance contract with wind park Klokbekertocht for six wind turbines in Swifterbant (the Netherlands). This makes Cofely the first professional independent service party for wind energy in the Netherlands. The contract has a value of 1.9 million euros.
The maintenance and management contract concerns six Vestas 1.65 Megawatt wind turbines in Swifterbant, Flevoland (NL). Klokbekertocht wind park made a conscious choice for Cofely. Cofely has years of experience relating to complex maintenance and optimisation issues for technical installations in various industrial branches. These years of experience are now being applied to the wind turbine market.
Expert in maintenance
“There is a lot of potential for improvement in the optimisation of wind turbine parks’ yield and continuity,” comments Evert Mollema, business unit manager at Cofely Experts. Until now, mainly wind turbine suppliers handled the maintenance of wind turbines. “Deep down, the core business of wind turbine suppliers is the development and sale of new wind turbine installations. They have relatively little experience with maintenance strategies. Wind turbines are complex technical installations demanding a professional approach and significant technical expertise in different disciplines. Cofely’s very wide range of experience in maintenance and management and our multidisciplinary know-how is a solution to this.”
Wind park optimisation
“Cofely’s objective is to optimise the wind park in such a way that the yield of green electricity will increase to 5%-10% per year. The condition of the wind turbines will be monitored 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This will enable us to proactively anticipate issues rather than resolve emergencies, thus minimising wind park standstill.
Energy efficiency
This order breaks into an interesting growth market for Cofely, which fits with the company’s mission: ‘Way ahead in sustainable technology’. With this mission, Cofely focuses on making existing installations more efficient and energy-efficient and applying environmentally friendly technologies. “We want to attain a prominent position in maintenance and management for onshore and offshore wind energy installations,” comments Evert Mollema. “This contract is the first step in achieving that ambition.”
