Cofely develops "sustainable sailing" on the Wadden Sea together with ferry operator Doeksen and LNG Europe.
Under the heading 'LBNG on the Wadden Sea: together for a sustainable Wadden area' cooperation will result in the realization of a 'green ferry’ sailing between Harlingen and Terschelling/Vlieland.
The ”green ferry” of Doeksen will sail on liquefied natural gas or - at a later stage - to even more environmentally friendly biogas derived from waste and residues (LBG). Goal is a reduction in emissions: nitrogen-oxides/NOx with 90 percent, sulpher-oxides/SOx with 100 percent, particulates by 95 percent, CO2 by at least 20 percent and finally a reduction of noise emissions by 50 to 75 percent. Also the associated infrastructure and bunker facilities are jointly developed.
The partnership "LBNG for the Wadden Sea" strives to realize an infrastructure for L(B)NG that not only allows the ferries of Doeksen to sail on gas, but also allows other parties to switch to this type of fuel.
