Cofely installs first ballast water treatment system for Dutch ship owner
Cofely received an order via Wagenborg Shipping to install a ballast water treatment system in a new vessel. It concerns a 90 meters general cargo vessel with 4500 tons of cargo capacity. This is the first commercial cargo vessel that is equipped with an IMO approved ballast water treatment system under Dutch flag. The Netherlands ratified the ballast water convention in May this year. This international convention requires all sea-going vessels to be equipped with a treatment system in 2016 at the latest. A ballast water treatment system ensures that the ballast water that is discharged contains only a very limited number of live organisms.
Total approach
Wagenborg has asked Cofely to take care of the entire installation process.
The ship owner has a lot of confidence in the knowledge and expertise that Cofely has acquired in this field and also values our integral approach. The first step was an independent advisory report in order to choose a suitable treatment system. After that Cofely used its 3D- laser scanner in order to map the situation on board and to plan the design with a CAD-program. Cofely will work closely together with Bijlsma Shipyard, which is responsible for the new vessel that will be delivered to the ship owner in October 2010.
Costs savings
Cofely Marine & Offshore offers distinctive solutions in the field of ballast water treatment. Our integral working method comprises independent advice, design, installation, start-up service and maintenance. Thanks to the 3D-scan, our specialists will be able to do all the necessary preparations for installation behind their desks, while your vessel is sailing. By optimising logistics we decrease installation time. This way shipping companies can save costs considerably.
