Achmea outsources to Cofely, a GDF SUEZ company, the operation and maintenance of its building-related installations

Achmea – the largest insurance group in the Netherlands – and Cofely, the energy services company of GDF SUEZ in the Netherlands, have signed an agreement for the maintenance and management of its building-related installations in Leeuwarden, Tilburg and Den Bosch. Cofely will be thus responsible for the reliability and availability of the technical installations and will also contribute to the realisation of substantial energy savings and minimal impact on the environment resulting from the maintenance process. Cofely will support Achmea in realising its ambition to become climate neutral. The agreement has a contract value of 10 million euros and a duration of six years.

Cofely, the energy and environmental services company of GDF SUEZ, will be responsible for the maintenance and management of the technical installations in nine buildings, spread across three locations, with a total surface area of 126,000 m². Cofely will oversee the functioning of these installations in order to ensure the continuity of business operations. In addition to availability of the technical installations, cost management and energy efficiency are key aspects of the agreement. In addition to cost savings of 10% due to optimising technical facilities, Cofely can contribute to annual savings of two percent on energy costs for all of Achmea’s buildings. This is an achievement-oriented contract, which means that Cofely will be evaluated periodically on the basis of a no-claims bonus system on the quality of the services provided per building.

Creating sustainable value

Sustainable business operations are an important pillar in Achmea’s business strategy. ‘We want to create sustainable value for our company, our customers, other stakeholders and the world in which we live. We want to burden the environment as little as possible with our office buildings. Sustainability has a central place in our business practices: in energy consumption, in the removal of waste, in paper and water use and in procurement’, says Bart Voortman, Director of Group Facility Services for Achmea. ‘We are convinced that Cofely will contribute to significant savings in terms of energy use and realise an effective reduction of carbon emissions.’
