APG chooses total package data centre services from Cofely

Algemene Pensioen Groep APG and Cofely in the Netherlands sign today a ten-year contract valued at 20 million euro that will allow the pension group to accommodate an important part of its ICT landscape in the new data centre of Cofely at Maastricht-Airport. After a tender process, APG selected the total package of data center services Cofely offered. These services are a combination of guarantees in terms of availability and flexibility, sustainable energy use and innovative techniques and solutions for cost control.

Know-how and location

For APG, a new and alternative location was a requisite, because the existing location could no longer satisfy the requirements. By placing the ICT equipment in Cofely’s data centre at Maastricht-Airport – which meets Tier III classification – APG now has two locations in Limburg, which allows optimum data availability.

Theo Peereboom, director of Concern Information Systems at APG, comments: “IT is vital to successful pension administration, a complex and service-oriented task in which data must be quickly and accurately processed. CSR is a priority in all our activities. We chose Cofely because it was obvious from the tender that Cofely had the know-how, experience and technical options to take the total operation of the data centre under its own management, within the requirements set by APG. This benefits the reliability and efficiency.” In addition, the possibilities for expansion were limited at the old location and replacement was unavoidable. In choosing a new location, APG looked specifically for a modern data centre, which first and foremost meets their current demand, but that has a future-focused design and the volume and applied technology to continue to meet their growing needs.

Energy efficient

Hans Boot, managing director and Member of the Cofely Executive Team remarks: “APG makes great demands in terms of availability, flexibility, energy and costs. These requirements match the core values of our company and our full-service service provision in the field of data centres. Sustainable energy supplies and cooling are the most critical success factors in this. All services provided by Cofely’s data centre are energy efficient and use 100% green energy, thus limiting possible environmental impact. Every kWh comes from environment-friendly sources such as wind, biomass or hydropower.”
