Interxion reselects GTI, a GDF SUEZ company, for Data Centre Expansion
GTI, a GDF SUEZ company, has been awarded a follow-up contract for the second phase of the new Interxion 'AMS5' data centre at Schiphol-Rijk. The data centre is Interxion's fifth data centre in Amsterdam and brings their total data centre footprint to 24 facilities in 13 cities across Europe. GTI's new contract involves extending the data centre by no less than 1,100m2 of equipped floor space. GTI is currently putting the finishing touches to the first phase of the centre. The company turned an existing building into an enterprise-class data centre in only seven months. The combination of speed of implementation and highly reliable systems resulted in GTI being awarded the subsequent contract. In this second phase, GTI will once again be responsible for all the structural, electrical and mechanical engineering installation work. The contract represents a significant investment by Interxion. Delivery of the second phase is planned for May 2009.
Energy efficiency
Interxion places the highest demands on security and (emergency) power supply, so that it can guarantee its clients 24-hour availability. Power supply and cooling are critical success factors for this. Interxion provides extremely high power levels in the data centre so that customers can run the latest high power configuration servers. They also address the possible environmental impact of this by providing 100% green energy ? with every kWh guaranteed to come from wind, bio mass or hydro generation. Interxion and GTI also worked together to realise a data centre that is as energy efficient as possible. As a result of the linkage between the electrical power and the cooling installation, the installations are optimally regulated and the data centre provides optimal Power Usage Effectiveness.
"Demand for high power and high availability equipped space continues to rise in our business, so speed is of the essence - but quality and efficiency are also vital," said Interxion Netherlands MD Michel van den Assem. "Thanks to the professionalism and expertise of GTI we have managed to achieve both in the opening phase of the AMS5 data centre build-out and we look forward to a similar success in phase two."
Leader in a growth market
Ruud Majenburg, member of the Executive Team and Managing Director of GTI's market sector and specialist businesses, comments: "Due to the fast increase in demand for data services, the market for independent data centres has become a strong growth market. This is evidenced by the construction of new centres and the modernisation of existing ones. As a technical service provider and specialist in energy efficiency, we are able to take responsibility for the entire construction of data centres quickly and professionally.
