Cofely ensures a pleasant indoor climate and sustainable energy consumption for AOC Oost in Twello

Cofely ensures a safe and healthy indoor climate and reduced energy consumption for the AOC Oost new building project in Twello. Cofely will therefore be making an important contribution making the school building sustainable by fitting energy efficient installations. Based on an agreement with AOC Oost, Cofely is responsible for putting all mechanical and electrical installations in place at the training centre. Completion is expected at the end of 2012.

The new-building project comprises a total surface area of 9,900 m² - including the school building, basement, green house and atrium - that will result in a modern school building that provides a pleasant learning environment. Cofely will put all building-related installations in place, from rain pipes, sewage systems and sanitary facilities to water, gas, heating and cooling systems. It will also fit ventilation, air-conditioning, fire-fighting and security installation.

Making the school building sustainable

The new building project is special because of its sustainable nature. Making the school building more energy-efficient will mean substantial savings each year. The design explicitly considers sustainability aspects and includes measures to limit effects on the environment. This focus is expressed in the installation of a cold and heat storage system that will supply sustainable energy to the school building. Re-use of heat from the ventilation air can be achieved by means of cross-flow heat exchangers. Low water temperatures used for heating and high temperatures used for cooling also deliver substantial energy savings. In addition, CO2 emissions in the air supply to classrooms are controlled. The atrium’s heating capacity in combination with switches in air supply, high-frequency lighting and detection systems are also used. Moreover, Cofely is placing a compressed air installation in the practical training rooms. The result is a sustainable installation that will considerably reduce the school’s energy costs. Above all, the measures taken will contribute to a modern school environment in which students can perform at their best.

‘Cofely is using its expertise in sustainable technology to contribute to a sustainable energy supply for AOC Oost in Twello,’ explains Rob van Gils, Commercial Director of Cofely South. ‘The entire school building is being modified to meet the requirements of the modern era. In addition to being cost effective, our solutions will give a tangible reduction in energy consumption and a pleasant learning and working environment that meets current environmental requirements.’
