Sustainable and efficient energy system for residential area
Ceres Projects, a part of Vestia, is building 800 new homes in the Duindorp district of Scheveningen. They have asked Deerns Consulting Engineers to develop a sustainable and efficient energy system to provide the new homes with heat and cooling. Using this, the living areas, tap water and floors will be heated, and the houses will be cooled in the summer. This energy system must be friendly to man and environment. Cofely was jointly responsible for the detail engineering and for building the system.
High efficiency from seawater
Cofely installed individual heat pumps in the houses to heat the living areas, tap water and floors. The energy system extracts the heat necessary for the heat pumps from the seawater in the harbour. A world first. Due to the relatively small temperature difference between the seawater and the heating network, the heat pump has an efficiency of 1100%. 11 kWh of heat is extracted from the seawater with 1 kWh of electricity.
Energy Efficiency
- The district is energy neutral. The sea is used as an alternative energy source. In this way, the district contributes to reduction of the greenhouse effect.
- Energy saving by application of new technology.
- An efficient energy system ensures a lower energy bill for the inhabitants.
